A Teddy Bear cut is done using a clipper with a comb attachment to trim a long-haired cat’s fur down a bit, but not down to the skin. It is suitable for longer haired cats with fur in good condition but that have difficulty grooming themselves. So this cut helps your cat by keeping the challenging parts of the fur at a more manageable length. This service includes a claw trim, full brush out, teddy bear cut clip, finishing with cleaning eyes and ears. Note – this cut is not suitable for cats with matted/pelted areas.
(Can take between 1-2 hours)
Whilst many of these services can be stand alone, some can be included as part of a full groom for an additional cost. See below for more details.
When nails get too long, they can curve round, piercing the paw pad. This is very painful for a cat and causes bleeding and infection. Most outdoor cats will naturally keep their claws well maintained through actively climbing, scratching and hunting. Indoor, older or less active cats have less opportunity or ability to naturally keep these trim, so this option will help you keep your cats claws in good condition.
This involves trimming back the fur on the cat’s chest. For some longer haired cats, the fur down their chest gets in the way or ingested when they are eating and can start to develop knots and tangles. Trimming this area helps reduce this and prevents them from ingesting too much fur.
This involves trimming the fur around the groin, genitals, bottom, and tail base. This is ideal for long-haired cats that often get faeces or litter stuck in coats and those that struggle to clean themselves properly in this region.
The price will depend on the severity of the matts / pelting and temperament of the cat on the day.
Using a clipper, the fur is shaved down close to the skin around the matted or pelted coat area, leaving the remainder of the cat’s fur intact. This is a helpful option if a full lion clip is not needed or not in the best interest of your cat.
The price will depend on the severity of the knots and temperament of the cat on the day.
The Belly Clip is a great option for long-haired cats that get lots of knots or matt easily in the belly, groin and armpit areas. Using a clipper, the fur is shaved down close to the skin around the belly and groin area. A Belly Clip is not visible from the front or sides of the cat, so you won’t see the shaved area whilst the cat is walking or lounging around in a loaf position. It's also a helpful option for cats in the summer months as they can use the shaved area to lay on cold surfaces (e.g. tiles) to keep cool.
We will need access to a space to groom your cat, which ideally has no hiding spaces (especially underneath a table or behind something heavy) and no exit routes. Please close windows and doors before the groom starts and keep them closed during the groom. Bathrooms and kitchens make for really good grooming areas as these usually have few hiding places and / or a door to secure the room.
We will work in that space with your cat either on our grooming table or other raised surface, on the floor or on our lap - maybe all of them! It really does depend on what your cat feels most comfortable with.
Each grooming session will start with a health check where we will gently assess your cats coat and body condition, check their eyes and their ears and talk with you about your requirements for that particular grooming session. It is at this point that we will be able to give you a more accurate costing for the groom. The health check also gives us the time and opportunity to find out where your cat likes to be stroked and what areas we will need to work carefully around which might be sensitive or be problematic for your cat.
You are welcome to stay and watch the groom, but there may be times when we need to work independently. If you are in the room with us, we might call upon you from time to time to distract, praise or help hold/ position your cat if it is appropriate. Its OK if you don't feel comfortable getting involved. Just let us know.
Please read our full terms and conditions before you make a booking.
